- Dogs become very ill and, in some cases, die.
- The most common signs of SCI are sickness, diarrhoea and lethargy.

- Xylitol is a sweetner being used more frequently in processed foods for human consumption.
- Dogs are sensitive to xylitol and it causes production of insulin very quickly, which leads to hypoglycaemia (lack of blood sugar).
- Symptoms Include: weakness, lethargy, depression, seizures, etc.
- Can be toxic within thirty minutes of eating.
- Long term can lead to liver failure.
